The Queen Annie Cottage….Part Three

Oh God! Was this Don Juan a sight to behold coming toward me with his hair in his hand. “Oh my darling,” he said, “it has come to an end!” “I’m certain you will survive,” I consoled him, trying not to notice what he was holding. I also realized he seemed a lot shorter, as he reached up with his free arm and put a death grip about my neck, and pulled me toward his anxiously awaiting lips, poised and ready to plan a hot kiss on mine. Before any connection was made, I managed to turn my head just enough to receive his big juicy smooch on my cheek, but still too near my lips for comfort. I bade him a very hasty goodnight, and the usual courtesy when you have worked with somebody for three days.
But I was still shaken about his having kissed me, and somewhat reviled at the thought, so I turned and exited out the closest door, even if it was a long ways from the front gate, where I was to meet mother. I walked down the hall disgusted at him, and all I could think was, “Sharon, just make believe it was Rock Hudson.” It is these situations that are the most difficult to be modest and pleasant, and yet avoid such pursuers. Oh where are those handsome protectors when you need them most! There are good guys in Hollywood. Those that are always pleasant, rarely seem to be cross, never on the make, and faithful to their wives, which is usually the subject that will come up first in friendly conversations; real men like John Gavin, Gary Collins, Bill Smith, John Saxon, and others like them, who never get the good press they deserve.
Having shaken off my last experience, I was ready to avail myself for more work where they needed me the most, and that was on the Desilu Culver lot working with Dennis Weaver in his first role since leaving Gunsmoke. It was difficult to look at him without thinking about the Chester character he had created for the show. No, Mr. Weaver did not have a limp, nor that thick drawl he used. However he does have a pleasant southern accent that is legitimate.
I wore my standby outfit, that in looking back, I wonder what ever possessed me. It must have looked fashionable for the day, and did photograph well. I know one reason I liked it was that it stayed neat all day, without any wrinkles. But in retrospect, why in the world I ever fancied it as chic is a wonder to me. This wonderful ensemble consisted of a houndstooth checked straight skirt, not in wool gabardine, as one would expect a fashion plate as myself to wear, but in the big fabric of the day, nylon stretched knit. The skirt did not fit tight or look cheap, but nevertheless it was a thick knit that just pulled on having an elastic waist. I had various tops that I would don depending upon the call and the weather. My favorite was a gold colored silk looking blouse, that was festooned with ruffles, that came around the neck and down the front in a double role, and as if that weren’t enough, ruffles demurely rimmed the cuff. A black jacket completed the ensemble. It was quite “mod” looking with no collar and double breasted that fastened with two nautical looking buttons side-by-side. When I would wear the black turtleneck, which too was that same nylon in a less bulky knit, with that I would wear an Evan Picone jacket in yellow felt. With this marvelous outfit I had several different ways that I would accessorize it depending upon the time of year the show was supposed to be filmed in. Not necessarily the time of year it actually was. Very typical of the studios was for us to have to dress in smart spring street clothes in the dead of winter. That would mean strutting out in lovely spring colors completely out of season. I became very used to these calls as it was the rule rather than the exception.
On the day I was on the Dennis Weaver show, which I believe was the TV version of Mr. Smith Goes To Washington, I had on that spiffy number mentioned before, and I suppose it was flattering…..

November, 2020
My Gracious Friend,
This is usually the time to draw attention to thanksgiving, yet really that should be something we always do. Not that I don’t enjoy our Thanksgiving traditions, I do, just as our Canadian friends did so last month. But I write this long before our elections here in American. An election, which this time will surely effect everything, and almost everybody. And despite my confidence in “the unchangeableness of His purpose” (Heb. 6:17), and my constant prayers about this, I have no idea, only hope, in God’s will for “what is Caesar’s.” God affirmed; “as I have planned, so shall it be, as I have purposed so shall it stand…For the Lord of hosts has purposed and who will annul it?” (Isa. 14:24,27). So I trust Him for the days ahead, without knowing what that is!
We know His purpose to ransom and restore His creation, and thereby to “choose” His “Bride,” is the “eternal purpose which He realized in Christ Jesus…”(Eph.3:11). This is literally the story of our Bible. What, “was kept secret for long ages, but now disclosed…”(Rm.16:25). But what is God’s will for “Caesar’s kingdom,” by which I mean our republics? What is His will for this coming year, and thus the virus and our economies? What about my family, your family, our friends, our churches? What is God’s will in all this? In truth no one knows, despite the current rash of sensational book titles.
You see I do not embrace fatalism. That is the idea that everything has been predetermined. Clearly God has chosen, or has willed certain things; like the birth, death, and resurrection of Jesus, or Satan’s demise, or His return in glory. Yet, I with Augustine believe, “that God thought it better that evil exist, than mankind not free.” We are created as free moral beings, which is, let’s face it, why there is so much havoc about us. Our choices determine not just our destinies in Him, but also a lot of other things. Every choice we make has consequences, which will at times force us to face unpleasantness, even tragedies.
Yet, we are thankfully free to choose! Which means we can meekly accept what we erroneously think is our fate, or “change what we can.” We can watch passively while our church dies or change things; if it’s removing the pastor, or those that hinder the move of God, or better become soul winners ourselves. We can cover our eyes to the moral decay, or speak up, in love for the wholeness and health of our society. We can be disheartened by political hysteria, or begin to work for the election of good people to the school board, the town council, our courts, and right on up to the top. If we do nothing we will get what we deserve; nothing better!
Many affirm the sovereign of God; that He is in control of everything. Yet, He Created in “space and time” and this, I believe, was an act of “self-limitation.” I believe there are many such acts of God “limiting” Himself, one of them is certainly creating man with free will. God would certainly know that sin, and thus evil, would result. Yet He did so! He does see everything, because He is beyond “space and time.” So He “foreknows,” or better He see all of time, and thus sees every consequence of our actions. He will at times guide, often very profoundly, as I know in my own life. Just as He has at many times acted providentially in our republics, so as to bring about His will. Perhaps He will again, but I’m not sure we deserve it. But He does provide guidance for us, as well as for nations. As Paul says, “the Spirit interceding for the saints according to the will of God” (Rm.8:27).
By the time you read this we all will know, to a degree, America’s direction, at least for a time. Was it God’s will or the free choice of a 130 million people, whether informed or not? Still, God is love among many other things (thankfully)! It is His nature, and in love He created us with free will (thankfully). This all so we would freely love Him in return (thankfully, many do). It is why Jesus, the Cross, His promise to return, and His desire that we might dwell with Him eternally (thankfully). So we can trust Him. And therefore whoever we are, or wish to be, is up to us. We can make things even better, or bury our “talent” in the ground (Mt.25:25). So regardless of what happened on Election Day, what others do, or don’t do (and I could tell you stories about that), what others say about you, or how you feel you are treated. It’s really unimportant! For in it all “we know for those that love God and who have been called for His purpose, God will work everything for the good. For those He has known (or been watching) all along He has destined to be conformed to the image of His Son (Rm.8:28-29, my translation).

Thankfully, we are His, and He is ours, because of His limitless love,

Thomas Randolf Wyatt

Thomas R Wyatt was born the son and grandson of Pentecostal ministers. He would be the first of his family to attend college. That being Oregon State University, and did so on an athletic scholarship for Track and Field. Upon finishing college, rather than a Bible School for his theological education, he entered what is now the Graduate Theological Union, an affiliation of several Christian Seminaries in the Berkeley, California area. Later he would earn a PhD from the California Graduate School of Theology. He would serve as a Youth Minister at the First Christian Church of San Mateo, California, and a Youth Minister with the Presbyterian Church of Orinda-Lafayette, California, before being called to his home church in Portland, Oregon, where he served for years as Assistant Pastor, and Pastor. He would later move his young family to Southern California to join the Wings of Healing ministries, then in Montebello, California. With the passing of Evelyn Wyatt in 2004, he assumed the helm of the ministry, and moved it to Whittier, California.
He was married for 47 years to his beloved Sharon, who passed from cancer in 2017. They had two boys, Gregory and Jeffrey, who are now married and have had five children of their own; Christian, Rhett, Emilia. Johnathan, and Abigail.

Brief History of the Wings of Healing:

The Wings of Healing Radio Ministry was born of the aspiration and foresight of Dr. Thomas Wyatt. In 1942, it was a leap of faith to launch such a ministry during the depths of World War II. Yet with the spiritual insights and anointed messages, soon the broadcast expanded from its modest beginnings until it was heard on two national radio networks, and eventually around the world. In the early years the ministry expanded into many areas of evangelism, initiating the first mass evangelistic crusades, in Jamaica, followed by West Africa, and soon in many other nations. Bethesda Bible Institute was begun in 1947, and was followed with a call for 500 to be trained as Pastors and Evangelists. As a result hundreds of indigenous churches were established in Africa, India, South America, and the Islands of the Sea, and a great religious movement swept the nations of Ghana (then the Gold Coast), and Nigeria, that is still bearing fruit. The ministry has continued its landmark involvement with these indigenous works, and with various benevolent outreaches around the world.
After Dr. Wyatt’s passing in 1964, the leadership of the Wings of Healing passed to his wife Evelyn Wyatt, who continued its vision and passionate message right up to her death in 2004. Today the Ministry continues under the direction of Dr. Thomas Randolf Wyatt, grandson of its Founder.

What We Believe:

Richard Baxter, one of the great Puritan Theologians said it best, “in necessarlis, unitas, in dublis, libertas, in omniis caritas” (in the essentials, unity, in the doubtful, liberty, in all things charity).

The “tradition delivered to the saints,” however, has not proved adequate to defend the established understanding of these essentials. Thus it becomes essential to state definitely that we believe:
Jesus Christ is the “only begotten of the Father,” conceived of the Holy Spirit, crucified under Pontius Pilate, He was buried and then “showing Himself alive after His death by many compelling proofs,” and is now “sitting at the right hand of the Father,” interceding as our High Priest.
We are “saved by the grace” of God, through faith “believing in Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior.” Through Him we become a “new creation” endued with the Holy Spirit. There is “salvation in no other name” than Jesus Christ.
The Church is called to be the very “body of Christ.” His invisible, universal, and undefeatable manifestation in the earth empowered by the Holy Spirit through the gifts and ministries to the church. This church, regardless of its past history or weakness, is called to be the spiritual depository of God’s revelation in Jesus Christ, and the tangible proclamation of the empowering gospel amid His creation.
By God’s own decree there will come a time when only goodness can exist. All evil will be thrust “into outer darkness,” and all who have been “born from above” will reign eternally with Christ Jesus in the very presence of the Father.
